The FIB’ers first Newport Bay bass tournament of 2009
was held on Saturday, May 2nd under cloudy calm
conditions. The bay is alive with bass right now, and the
sandies that had been a no-show for the past couple of
seasons are back with a vengeance. However, most are short
of the legal limit, but time will take care of this. Fifteen
anglers entered. In spite of a low pressure system that moved
in Friday evening to change conditions up a bit, all but two
anglers weighed in fish. Congratulations to our own Tom
Handzus for another 1st place finish, keeping his Newport
Bay streak going. 2nd place went to Roy Fukushima, and 3rd
to Val Handzus. All winning fish were spotted bay bass.
Thanks to all the participants who keep this event going. The
next event will be on Saturday, July 25th. This one will be a
two person team, artificial bait only, 3 fish limit event.
