Kids Ministry Whale Watching Trip 3/6/2013

Tuesday, March 12th, 2013

Tuesday evening, the night before our whale watching trip, on the way home from bible study, there were rain drops on the windshield. Not a good sign for a kids whale watching trip the next day. The next morning I woke up early, and it was clear. God blessed; we “dodged a bullet” or “just got lucky,” you pick.
Anyway, it was a beautiful morning down at Newport Landing. The skies were clear, with only a slight breeze. The Amigo was ready with Captain Tom at the helm, Ichrio and Connor along to help spot whales. The kids and staff from Olivecrest were on time and we left at 10:00 am. We all gathered in the galley, had introductions, a boat safety discussion, and a prayer of blessing for the trip and the boat and crew. We motored out of the harbor with great excitement on board by all As usual we stopped by the bell buoy to view the group of sea lions there. Captain Tom turned the boat North along the coast. Up by the Newport pier we saw a young gray whale heading north. The boat followed the whale for good viewing. Then Captain Tom turned the boat west to go find some porpoise. We found a nice pod milling around, so it was easy to stay with them and watch the show. The whole boat enjoyed watching them for quite a long time. We headed back toward the harbor, stopped by the sea lions again and headed back to the dock. It was a great day on the water: we had a slight breeze and swells of about a foot. Thank you to Julie, Santa and Ken for helping out on the trip.

Do not forget the kids fishing trip on June 5
. Just a side note: PS the skiing was wonderful on Friday. May God be praised for the great trip and all the people that helped make it happen.

Monster Trout…

Saturday, March 9th, 2013

FIB’er friend Manny M. hooked and lost the largest trout of his fishing career at Irvine Lake this morning fishing with his 7 year old daughter. After a monster fight and five jumps out of the water, this is all that the monster trout left him with!

This is the kind of stuff that makes you come back for more – Keep at it Manny!!!
