Saturday, August 17th started out very foggy, but the fog quickly cleared with when the sun came out, which revealed very clear water, and tough fishing in most areas. We had 10 teams (20 adults & 1 junior) compete in this event – it was a good turnout!
The format was 3 + 1 = The bag limit was 3 fish unless you had one or more Spotted Bay Bass; in that case you could weigh 4 fish. “I liked the format, it made you think,” is what I heard from several teams. Teams had to decide where they would fish to target the bigger fish, and whether or not they would try for a Spotted Bay Bass or not. At the weigh in, it became clear that not all teams had trouble catching some really nice fish!
First Place: Chris Oaks, Barry Legget & Scott Smith weighed in 4 fish for 13.02#’s with the big fish for the tournament (7.05# Calico)
Second Place: Tom Nitahara and Mike Uribe weighed 4 fish for 12.09#’s with a nice 4.72# Calico as their big fish.
Third Place, and first out of the money: Eric and Jerry Bent weighed 3 Calicos for 10.30#’s with a nice 4.84# big fish.
Fishing solo and catching the heaviest Spotted Bay Bass of the tournament was Scott Reason – 2.53# Spottie (The picture does not do this fish any justice!)
I would like to thank God for the great turn out and that everyone was safe and had a good time!
