Trip Summary:

The trip began with the night before Pacific Voyager was coming in with only 1 fish for the entire boat. Our group was feeling a little despair.  I told them that there was just more fish out there for us to catch now.  Twenty one of us headed out on a nice calm evening with calm seas.  We had four first time FIB’er guests on board.   The skipper Mark Oronoz told us there was going to be a nice water temperature break approx 100 miles south, and we would begin fishing about 8 am in the morning. The skipper said that we needed to have some good luck, but we told him we don’t need luck but that we are a Christian fishing club and we will be in prayer for the Lord to bless our day. The day began with a wonderful breakfast made by the Chef, Jeff.  At approx. 9 am we came up to a kelp patty and caught 190 yellowtail in about 1 and ½ hours, this catch was non stop.  The action was so hot that several of us started to catch and release our yellowtail.  That was probably a record for catching 190 fish in about a 1 and ½ hour time span.  At noon we came to another kelp patty and caught 20 more yellowtail along with 2 skipjack on the troll.  There was more kelp at 1 pm another 20 yellowtail, 2 smaller yellowfin tuna were brought onboard.  At 2:30 all 4 trolling lines went off at the same time. We caught more yellowtail and a few more yellowfin tuna.  The fish were caught on live bait, swim baits, the iron, mega baits, butterfly jigs, some used heavy line some used light line, it really didn’t matter as everything was working.  Around 4 pm the weather started to cool down and the wind picked up a little, but the fishing was still hot we had several stops for yellowfin tuna and between 4 and 6 we landed about another 69 yellowfin tuna.  That wraps up our very busy day, and at sunset we were all more than thrilled with our catch for the day.  We serve a great God, who answers our prayers.
